Women entrepreneurs emphasize the personal in business — online and off

CHICAGO (27 February 2001) - Two businesses with woman owners — Type A Learning Agency, and the Law Offices of Geman, Garber, and Kerpel— are pleased to announce the launch of www.visagroup.com, a dynamic website that offers individuals and companies around the world a convenient online means of obtaining legal counsel and information regarding immigration and work visas.

VisaGroup.com was established by The Law Offices of Geman, Garber & Kerpel— a Chicago-based immigration law firm— to help individuals, families, and their employers with the application and processing of U.S. immigration visa applications, “green cards,” and related immigration legal matters. At VisaGroup.com, visa applicants or their sponsors can obtain prompt, quality legal advice through interactive and personal contacts specific to the immigration or employment situation at hand, via a secure, private Net consultation without incurring expensive hourly fees or long-distance phone charges.

VisaGroup.com is the creation of Melissa Garber, a recognized legal pioneer in using the Internet to practice immigration law. As one of two co-founders of an earlier law firm, which practiced immigration law exclusively over the Internet, Garber set out on her own in April 2000 and founded the immigration law firm Melissa Garber Kerpel & Associates, P.C. Garber recently joined Kenneth Y. Geman to form the law firm of Geman, Garber & Kerpel. Geman, a respected attorney and teacher in the field of immigration law, has been practicing immigration law for over 35 years. Martin D. Kerpel, in joining this new venture, provides key business and entrepreneurial experience.

Garber is quick to point out the advantages of VisaGroup.com: “VisaGroup.com, using the Internet’s speed and interactive attributes, provides the same, personal attention and care to its clients as traditional law firms because it is an extension of one. In addition, VisaGroup.com gives clients the ability to check the status of their cases 24 hours a day and allows for easy communication with an attorney or with clients anywhere in the world. We see VisaGroup.com as both an option for our traditional clients and a vehicle for our online clients through which we can provide efficient service without compromising the quality of the legal work we provide.”

Anna Belyaev, CEO of Type A Learning Agency, a growing Chicago-based e-business development firm, and Garber met at a networking luncheon sponsored by the Chicago-based Women’s Business Development Center. Says Garber, “It was immediately apparent that Type A not only had the technical know-how to build our site, but understood the philosophical underpinnings of our vision, the legal complexities, and could help us develop a process that would take advantage of technology without taking the human and professional element out of the equation.”

Belyaev shares Garber’s excitement about the project and how the relationship between the two companies started, “The launch of VisaGroup.com is a terrific example of the power of networking and the importance of creating networking opportunities that attend to the interests of minority and woman-owned businesses. We’re grateful to organizations such as the WBDC, Webgrrls, ChicWIT and DigitalEve for the opportunities they’re helping us to create with and for other women in the community.”
