New family website bridges
the money gap between parents and kids
CHICAGO (20 August 2001) - Kid Capital LLC. and Type
A Learning Agency are pleased to announce the launch of www.kidcapital.com,
an innovative website designed to get families talking about money
and money management while their kids are still young. KidCapital.com
provides a virtual space where families with pre-teen kids (ages
7-13) will find many opportunities to learn about money together.
According to Advertising Age, pre-teens influence
nearly $600 billion in annual spending in America. They control
between $200 to $300 billion of their own money, most of which
is received from parents, extended family members, and friends.
The Adbusters group also says teenagers are exposed to an estimated
3,000 advertisements each day. Were not trying to
place an unhealthy emphasis on money, says Kid Capital founder,
Jeff Semenchuk, but given our cultural conditions, we want
to equip our kids to manage money responsibly and prevent them
from making big money mistakes in the future.Semenchuk started
the company in response to his own familys need for ways
to talk about and learn good money habits.
Thats why Kid Capitals signature focus
is based on four principle actions: save, invest, give, and spend.
All of Kid Capitals product offerings reflect these actions
and uses of money, as well as where and how much emphasis should
be put on money in a familys everyday life based on individual
family values.
Not just for parents, KidCapital.com provides a rich
variety of family financial information for extended family members,
educators, financial services companies, and anyone with an interest
in educating kids. Kids will also find a colorfully interactive
section that features games, career information, and real stories
from money savvy kids.
Some of the resources available on the site include:
practical strategies and tips; best picks in books
and games; and information about Kid Capitals suite of family-oriented
financial software, currently in development. One of these products
scheduled for release in the near future is Track4, money management
software that integrates financial education and real-life money
management for families. This release will be followed by a family
financial literacy program sponsored by corporations, as well
as parent-kid interactive games on money that can be played in
the grocery store, on summer vacations, and on road trips.
