Women entrepreneurs collaborate to take Fulcrum Network to the next level CHICAGO (15 February 2001) - Two woman-owned businesses, — Type A Learning Agency, a growing Chicago-based e-business development firm, and Naperville-based Fulcrum Network, Inc. — are pleased to announce the launch of www.fulcrumnetwork.com, a full-featured website that matches businesses with independent consultants across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Fulcrum Network, Inc. places senior-level consultants specializing in training, human resources, management consulting, and organizational development within major corporations in the Chicago area as well as nationally. With the release of FulcrumNetwork.com, Fulcrum’s clients can submit RFPs, receive proposals, get biographical information about Fulcrum consultants, and keep track of their projects, entirely online if they wish. Similarly, the consultants who work through Fulcrum Network can track prospective and ongoing projects, create custom biographies for prospective clients, submit invoices, and even get up-to-date information about the status of client billing. As an added benefit for its users, FulcrumNetwork.com also features live, moderated chats with leading business experts. For Diane Kubal, owner of Fulcrum Network, Inc., partnering with Type A was a natural choice. “We could tell from the start that Type A not only had the technical expertise to see us through this challenge, but would provide the responsiveness and training we would need to make the Internet really work for our business,” said Kubal. “Type A’s company culture meshed well with our own high-touch way of doing business.” Anna Belyaev, the principal managing member of Type A Learning Agency, is similarly enthusiastic. “It’s remarkable how women in the Chicago community are banding together to help build and promote each other’s businesses,” said Belyaev, who credits such organizations as Chicago Webgrrls, the Women’s Business Development Center and the Chicago Chapter of Women in Technology for fostering such a strong local community. At the outset of the project, Kubal enlisted the help of Jill Pollack, a consultant specializing in interactive multimedia communications. Pollack’s strategic planning and rapid prototyping were critical in helping Fulcrum refine its vision for the website, as well as selecting the right partner for development. Further contributions came from compUcoach, Inc., founded by Jennifer Speaker. Moving so many business processes online required a number of upgrades to Fulcrum’s office network. Specialists in computer consulting and one-on-one training for at-home users and small businesses, compUcoach built a new network solution for Fulcrum that included high-speed satellite Internet access and a wireless LAN. “CompUcoach completely transformed our office network in matter of weeks,” said Kubal, “and now we’re flying…” For Kubal, the launch of FulcrumNetwork.com represents an important step in more ways than one. “Of course I’m excited about our new site and the value it brings to our clients and consultants,” said Kubal, “but I’m also enthusiastic about the great talent we assembled to put this project together. It can be scary to be this close to the cutting edge of technology sometimes, but these partnerships allowed us to meet these challenges with confidence.
