Contemplate breaks into the public consciousness

CHICAGO (23 March 2004) - It's a marketing professional's dream: take a common word, turn it into a brand name, and watch the word become more closely associated with the brand than with its original meaning. Well, maybe not according to Webster's Dictionary, but at least according to Google and other prominent search engines that guide more and more shoppers these days. Apple has done it, ranking its Macintosh operating system above overcoats; Microsoft has done it, ranking its Longhorn project above cattle. Now Type A has done it, with its popular, open-source product named Contemplate.

Enter "contemplate" into Google, Yahoo!, or MSN Search, and you won't find websites about meditation or philosophy at the top of your list. You'll find an elegant piece of software called the Contemplate™ Web Templating System, a web development tool created and enhanced by Type A over the last few years and released as a free, open-source product in May of 2003. Contemplate makes it easy for web developers to separate content from code, while working in conjunction with the server-side technologies and web editing software of their choice.

Since its release, developers from around the world have been downloading Contemplate, and new websites built with the tool have been gradually appearing. That all got a big boost in late February, when Linux.com published a Contemplate tutorial on its home page. Within a few days, developers were emailing the Contemplate URL to each other, posting it on messageboards, and cross-linking from their own sites, and the major search engines took notice of all the activity. Now, with the Contemplate site receiving requests from as far away as Peru and Nepal and processing 500 downloads a month, the word "contemplate" has a new meaning, as far as the Internet world is concerned.

So, if you're looking for a way to get in touch with your deep thoughts, you'll have to scroll down a bit. But if you're looking for a way to streamline your web development, that first link will do just fine. Here it is for your convenience: http://www.typea.net/software/contemplate.
